Special features of Quantum Reels

Why Performance Tuned™?

Our engineers fish. And when they're not fishing they're thinking about fishing. Thinking. Tinkering. Toying. Dreaming. Failing. Winning. Oh, they always get it right, even if it takes them, well, three years, like PT did. (A calendar year is like 10 in Quantum "engineer life." Strange beings, they are.) Quantum PT could stand for "painstaking." It took great pains to create Performance Tuned - to design and test the mechanics that make up this line of light tackle. And our engineers were finally at peace. For freshwater. Then, as usually happens with quality tackle, PT made the move to salt, and sent us back to the drawing board. So, for saltwater anglers, that means PT might just stand for "perfect timing."Harsh, corrosive saltwater. Extremely aggressive fish. What kind of tough tackle comes between the two for those bluewater crazies who like a little light in their fight? PT Saltwater. Performance Tuned - finalized through trial and error, baptized in saltwater - is all about tough. It took countless hours to perfect the inner workings and outer coatings that define this Quantum line. A lot of them in our test lab before even getting a hook wet.Why PT? Because it's our obsession. It's bearings in our sleep, ceramics for breakfast, and every waking moment trying to find the right solutions for the toughest crises that baitcast and spinning reels and rods encounter...and the right combinations for fishing's toughest critics - you. It's three years in the making. But who's counting. No time clock here

Saltgard six-layer finish Saltgard six-layer finish starts with an anodized conversion coating that forms a dense molecular barrier on the aluminum. Two separate high temperature dip processes deposit a corrosion inhibitor in the microscopic pores of the aluminum, protecting it from saltwater intrusion even if it's scratched. The surface is then primer painted, followed by a base coat and a clear coat to provide additional protection and keep you reel looking its best.

PT Gears
PT Gears

Smoother than smooth. Specially developed alloys significantly increase the hardness of our gears for whisper smooth performance over the life of the reel. CNC hobbing equipment precisely cuts each gear tooth the same way,

one at a time. Made in small production lots, drive gears are custom matched to our pinion gears to further ensure smooth retrieves and cranking power.

Customized PT™ Bearings
Customized PT™ Bearings

Most reels use stock, low-cost bearings originally designed for other applications. Not ours. We developed our own stainless bearings to exact specifications to minimize vibration and rotational friction. We even fit them in a special polymer composite bearing cage to dampen noise and intensify sensitivity during retrieves.

Ceramics Technology
Ceramics Technology

Ceramics Can Take The Heat. PT reels use a variety of ceramic technologies to improve function. Our baitcast levelwind system features a rock-hard ceramic-coated wormshaft mated to a Zirconia pawl to greatly reduce wear in this critical area. Our drag systems feature ceramic washers to eliminate wear and dissipate heat for smooth performance during long runs. Our ceramic discs (with matching stainless steel washers) provide a drag that maintains exact preset conditions because the ceramics will not swell even under extreme heat. Multiple, oversized drag washers in the front and rear of the BocaPT and CaboPT spinning spools provide maximum contact area and help distribute pressure for very accurate and consistent performance.

TiMAG™II Bail & Magnetic Bail Trip
TiMAG™II Bail & Magnetic Bail Trip

The industry's only nickel-titanium bail is super elastic, lighter and thinner than steel. Nickel-Titanium is also corrosion-proof, so plating isn't necessary. The TiMAG II system also uses the world's first magnetic bail trip. The multi-pole magnetic system accurately and consistently positions the bail open and closed each and every time. It's so reliable, it comes with a LIFETIME BAIL WARRANTY.

ThinLine™ Aluminum Bodies
ThinLine™ Aluminum Bodies

Quantum ThinLine bodies are the most streamlined in the industry, an ergonomic masterpiece. They are built of aluminum ro reduce weight with absolutely no flex.

ThinLine bodies can be found on all Performance Tuned™ spinning reels (EnergyPTi, CatalystPTi and KineticPTi) as well as Quantum's Pulse™ and Icon™ spinning reels.

MAGLOK™ Anti-Reverse
MAGLOK™ Anti-Reverse

Boca and Cabo spinning reels use our new MAGLOK™ anti-reverse system. Strong magnets replace conventional springs for zero backplay in the handle and rotor. This design also makes for a far more corrosion resistant system than traditional clutches.
